Forts and Dramatic Play

Today and yesterday we continued to explore our Home and Family theme.  The children enjoyed playing in the AirFort (an instant tent powered by a fan). Our friends explored the fan attached to one end and were curious about how the tent was inflating.  We played peek-a-boo, enjoyed coming in and out, and singing songs in our "house".

J: "Tent! House!"

In the Atelier, we used spray bottles to reveal mystery images (houses).  This allowed us to work on strengthening our hand muscles while mixing colors to create beautiful pieces of art.

In our sensory bin, we changed out baby washing for dish washing! The children enjoyed spraying the dishes with water, using the sponge and splashing in the water.

Today we got to "sweep up" a mess in our free play area.  Everyone has been very interested in the adult sized broom and dust pan in our class, so we brought out some smaller sets for playing!  The kids swept up some rubber squiggles and practiced dumping them in the "trash".  This type of play allows us to expand more into our dramatic plays skills.  An important milestone for toddlers is using objects for real or imagined purposes.  Our "trash" play expanded into playing in the doll house, dress up and pretend phone calls.

O: "Hello?"
