Friday Fun!

Yesterday, we did a fun experiment with markers, paper towels, and water. The children colored the paper towels with markers, and then Ms. Krysti rolled them up and scrunched them.

Then. we added water and watched our "worms" grow!

Squirting the water was our favorite part of this experiment!

Then we went on a worm hunt to see if we could find some to add to our wormery. We dug near the bike track.

Then we tried finding worms in the outdoor classroom.

Those worms just did not want to be found!

So we gathered some leaves and weeds to add to finish off our wormery.

Today, we asked the other classes to assist with our worm hunt. Peuton and Ganon came through with so many worms!

The Katon children added the worms to our worm habitat! Some of them were really excited to help with the worms and others were just happy to watch the worms in the container.

This was the perfect end to our exploration of worms! Now we will get to see what happens as the worms dig down through the sand and soil over the next week.

Building a Wormery

Tuesday, the children helped make some cloud dough with lotion and cornstarch. These kids love some good, messy measuring and stirring. They also thought it was fun adding rocks and our toy worms to the cloud dough to see what happened.

Today, our friends walked hand-in-hand to the classroom first thing. It was unprompted and just what our teacher hearts needed to start the day right!

Then we made a home for some worms. We used rocks, sand, and soil to make a wormery, and will add some worms to it if we can catch some tomorrow!

We also introduced the idea of measurement. We used the toy worms to measure various objects and found that our long blocks are about three worms long!

Outside came inside in the form of mud paint. The children had a great time experimenting with the mud paint on two different surfaces. They used the brushes and poured the mud paint onto sheets of cardboard and plastic. They found that the cardboard absorbed more of the mud than the plastic.

"So much messy! We'll clean it?"

We have brought back out a Katon favorite toy! The stacking gears have reappeared, and at this point in the year, the children are doing a fantastic job practicing waiting and taking turns! Some of our littles are even making sure that their classmates are getting turns too.

What a Year!

What a year it has been! The children in Katon started out as "Covid babies."  They had grown up mostly around their families and...
