On Tuesday and Wednesday this week, we continued our exploration of winter in classroom! We finished our salt art, counted cotton ball "snowballs" and found out we can put them in various containers, took "sled rides" on the parachute in the Big Muscle Room, and explored pretend snow in the sensory table. The teachers got to witness a shift in the children's play this week as well. More and more of our Katon class are demonstrating those beginning friendship skills with more friends being asked for by name, imitative play, and mastering parallel play.
Our salt paintings turned out to be super fun! The children loved watching the watercolors spread across the salt when they touched the paintbrushes to it.
In a perfect example of child-led learning, a couple of the children really wanted to explore the texture of the salt more than they wanted to use it for art. So we pulled out some containers and made a mini sensory bin for those children to use. For our friends who are just a little bit older, we added salt to a tray to let them explore writing and drawing in the salt.
