As the Katon children become more and more confident learners every day, we have really had an opportunity to be able to put out invitations, and get out of their way in the last couple of days.
Tuesday morning, this was in the form of playdough play. Teachers put out the items, but just observed while the children decided how they wanted to use the different items. A few of the children asked for us to help them make balls of playdough (a skill they are not developmentally ready to do on their own), but other than that, they explored on their own.
On the playground, we played with sidewalk chalk for the first time in quite a while.
"I'm drawing shadows."
"I'm drawing Ms. Krysti!"
"Circles!"
We also brought the bug counters out to the mud kitchen since our live bug friends did not seem to want to come out to play.
Today the children painted with yarn....or their hands.
Then we used foil to wrap the caterpillars up as if they were a chrysalis. This became a game of scooping foil pieces up with spoons and moving them from one container to another. It was amazing to watch one friend start and then other friends join in.
