Hard and Soft

Today we were inspired by another work by Raffi Lavie! The children looked at the colors in the picture and we observed that not only did it look like there was paint used but also pencils. The children used crayons and paint to start their versions of this artwork.

This is the artwork the children saw.

The children got right to work. We will leave this project out for some continued collaboration tomorrow.

We also went back to the first pieces the children started inspired by Lavie's work. They added lines and squiggles and scribbles with the colored pencils. They found that they had to push really hard to get the colors to come out darker.

Today we also talked about the concept of hard and soft. We talked about the soft-shelled turtles that can be found in Israel. They have a layer of skin over their hard shells that makes them look soft. Then we looked for hard and soft items in the classroom.

Ms. Krysti is a bit of a Star Wars fan, so we also listened to music from the Star Wars movies. When it started, one of the children said, "It's too loud!" Other friends got really excited about the music. They loved hearing the orchestra play, and looking at the picture of the musicians on the computer!
