More Shape Fun!

Thursday and Friday we continued our exploration of circles. We visited our outdoor classroom for the first time in a while. The children spent quite a bit of time exploring the area. At the beginning of the year, they stuck pretty close to the sandbox, so it was incredibly fun to see them adventuring off into other areas of that classroom! We took spray bottles outside to "spray paint" some more coffee filters. The children also discovered the colorful circles they could spin.

We spent two days on a fun project in our classroom that challenged the children's problem solving skills as well as helped with gross and fine muscle development. We hung rows of paper plates from the ceiling. We then asked the children to color these circles using the markers. The children did a great job figuring out how to hold the plates steady with one hand while coloring on them with the other hand. They also experimented using the dot markers from the easel. They discovered that it was more difficult to use the dot markers. On Friday, the children added one of their favorite things to the plates: stickers!

Next week we will expand our exploration of shapes with the addition of triangles.
