Turkeys and Sensory Play

The last two days in our class have been full of sensory exploration.  Our class is always full of lots of tactile sensory exploration, but our children have really been exploring their proprioceptive sense the last few days.  The
proprioceptive sense is related to body position and movement.  Its input and feedback tell you where your body is in space.  Working on this sensory system helps toddlers work on body awareness. Climbing through tunnels, on play structures and spinning in circles were fan favorites.  In addition, some friends played in a body sock.  The body sock allows you to crawl in and push your arms legs, and even head against the stretchy material.

Our sensory table became a sensory bin today.  We played on the floor with cranberries and acorns; putting them in bottles and ice cube trays and dumping them back out again.

Our toddlers have really begun to show a love of reading.  The last few days, friends have been bringing teachers books to read, or can be found reading a book to themselves.  Friends enjoy naming things found on the pages and some friends can be heard making up their own stories.

"Turkey" playdough was a big hit at our train table this morning.  We used feathers to turn our pumpkin pie scented playdough into silly looking turkeys!
