Shofars and Pomegranates

Today was full of new experiences for our Katon class! We got to hear Rabbi Schusterman sound the shofar and learned what it takes to make a shofar. We learned that shofars are often made from the horns of rams like the ram we met yesterday. After nap, we got to taste pomegranate juice as we talked about and looked at pictures of this sweet fruit. Tomorrow is our trip to the apple orchard! We are so excited!

The children were mesmerized as soon as they heard the shofar. It was loud but not loud enough to be scary. Watching Rabbi Schusterman make a shofar was so interesting. The children were very curious about the tools he was using and the sound of the drill. We've also attached links to some videos of what we heard today.

Mrs. Ashley showed us pictures of pomegranates and the inside of a pomegranate. Then we tried pomegranate juice. Some of the children really liked the juice. Some had other opinions.
